Which Tub and Shower is Right For You?
When remodeling your bathroom, deciding what to replace your tub and shower with is an important choice to make. There's always cost to consider, but there's also durability and "clean-ability" so to speak.
Fiberglass tubs and acrylic tubs are okay for baths that just are not used that often. They have a warranty of about 1 to five years and the finish is sometimes not included. Of course, the finish is the part that breaks down first because shampoo dyes and soaps impregnate the gel coat and cannot be removed. They also tend to crack at stress points. Scouring pads cannot be used to clean fiberglass or acrylic tubs.
Second only to cast iron, Porcelain Steel Enameled tubs are the best buy for the price. They clean the easiest and you may use scouring pads to clean them just like you would with tile.
For most tubs using insulation stuffed in and around the tub walls, bath water will stay warm longer and the noise level is greatly reduced.
Bottom line... Kohler's Sterling bolt-in units are the finest that we have found for finish, fit and fashion.
